What exactly is GoHighlevel DND?
DND stands for Do Not Disturb, and GoHighlevels uses this setting to indicate if a contact has requested to be removed from certain types of communications. In the GoHighlevel platform, a DND record exists for every channel for customer communication. At the time of this article, these channels are text messages, email, Facebook Messenger, calls and voicemail, and GMB. A contact can request DND for one or all of these communication types.
What is GoHighlevel/Highlevel?
GoHighlevel, or just Highlevel as its users call it, is an all-in-one sales and marketing platform for marketing agencies and small businesses. The GoHighlevel platform offers every tool needed to run a business successfully at a fixed monthly cost. The GoHighlevel platform allows you to Whitelabel their software so agencies can use this platform and brand it like it was their own. This allows agencies to create a Software as a Service (SaaS) business and an additional monthly recurring revenue stream.
Typically, agencies would perform a job for their client, like building a website or running Facebook ads, only to have the job end or the client cancel their service. Now, agencies have to continue to market to find another client. Now, with GoHighlevel, you can migrate your clients off whatever CRM, email marketing tool, phone system, or funnel software they may be using and run their business entirely off the GoHighlevel platform. The best thing about this is that your clients pay you monthly for these services. You can charge $297, $497, or whatever you want to charge for these services, and your client continues to pay for these each month like a utility, creating a stable recurring monthly revenue.
GoHighlevel sets no limits for its users on any paid plan so you can have unlimited contacts, websites, funnels, email or text templates, and workflows. There are also no limits for storage so you can host as many videos, files, documents, or images as you or your clients may have.

How to Add/Remove DND in GoHighlevel?
The DND settings for contact are located with the GoHighlevel CRM. When logged into the platform, you will want to select Contacts from the menu and then select a particular contact you wish to add or remove DND. You will see this box on the main contact page.
Gohighlevel has streamlined this process by adding an easy-to-use DND setup. Select which communication types the contact no longer wishes to be contacted, then check the box.
For the last setting DND Inbound Calls and SMS if this option is checked, then Inbound calls from this number will be directly blocked, whereas “inbound SMS will be blocked at the system level so that charges will incur.” GoHighlevel uses Twilio for phone calls, so if this option is selected, the calls will be blocked before getting to GoHighlevel therefore, you will not receive any cost for that call. SMS is different due to the technology.
Manually doing this for every contact you have or get in the future can be daunting, GoHighlevel uses Workflows to provide automation in your business that allows you to automate the process of updating the DND field and responding to customers in real-time.
How do DND settings affect a Workflow?
Workflows are the core automation tool in Gohighlevel. They are used to doing everything, including SMS and email follow-up. Many users question how the Gohighlevel system handles contacts currently in a workflow when the DND setting has been applied. Every time a workflow sends an SMS or email to a contact, it checks the DND settings before it does to make sure it is allowed to do so. So if contact is currently in any workflow when the DND setting is applied or even removed, the workflow will either send or not send according to the DND settings.
Compliance settings with GoHighlevel
If you have been doing SMS or email marketing, you will understand the importance of complying with both. There have been strict regulations regarding both recently, so GoHighlevel has built compliance into its core settings. Under Settings > Business Profile and the General area in your account, you will see three areas of interest regarding compliance.
If you use the Lead Connector email and phone system with GoHighlevel, the default system, these settings are appended to each email and SMS message sent to keep everyone compliant. Suppose a contact responds STOP to an SMS or clicks on the unsubscribe link in your email. In that case, Gohighlevel automatically sets the DND value for that communication in the contact record.
GoHighlevel DND Conclusion
As a marketer today, staying in compliance with SMS and email marketing laws has always been more critical. As a user within GoHighlevel, it’s a comfort to know that these compliance steps have been integrated so deeply into the platform that it is easy to stay compliant without much effort. As a marketing platform, GoHighlevel supports its users and respects the privacy of all of its customers.
