What is GoHighlevel/Highlevel?
GoHighlevel, or just Highlevel as its users call it, is an all-in-one sales and marketing platform for marketing agencies and small businesses. The GoHighlevel platform offers every tool needed to run a business successfully at a fixed monthly cost. The GoHighlevel platform allows you to Whitelabel their software so agencies can use this platform and brand it like it was their own. This allows agencies to create a Software as a Service (SaaS) business and an additional monthly recurring revenue stream.
Typically agencies would perform a job for their client like building a website or running Facebook ads only to have the job end or the client cancel their service. Now, agencies have to continue to market to find another client. Now with GoHighlevel, you can migrate your clients off whatever CRM, email marketing tool, phone system, or funnel software they may be using and run their business entirely off the GoHighlevel platform. The best thing about this is that your clients pay you monthly for these services. You can charge $297, $497, or whatever you want to charge for these services and your client continues to pay for these each month like a utility creating a stable recurring monthly revenue.
GoHighlevel sets no limits for its users on any paid plan so you can have unlimited contacts, websites, funnels, email or text templates, and workflows. There are also no limits for storage so you can host as many videos, files, documents, or images as you or your clients may have.

What is a Tag?
The term “tag” in GoHighLevel, refers to a label or identifier that can be assigned to contacts or leads within the platform. Tags allow you to categorize and segment your audience based on specific criteria or characteristics. By assigning tags to contacts, you can easily group them and apply targeted marketing strategies or automation sequences. For example, you could create a tag for “Newsletter Subscribers” or “VIP Customers” to send tailored messages or offers to those segments.
You can also use tags to filter contacts and create “smart lists” within GoHighlevel. Smart lists are a way for its users to save filtered lists and easily be able to access these contacts in the future. When you create a smart list, GoHighlevel Creates a tab across the CRM system to allow you to access that list in the future.
How can Tags be used in GoHighlevel?
The first way is to create Smart Lists within the GoHighlevel CRM system, which we have already discussed.
The second way to use tags in the GoHighlevel system is with workflows. Workflows are the key to all automation within GoHighlevel. The trick with workflows is triggers. A trigger is an action that GoHighlevel can detect, which can start the workflow. It’s excellent that GoHighlevel has included two essential triggers specifically related to tags within the workflow builder. They are Tagg Added and Tag Removed.
Note: Anytime you are dealing with contacts within GoHighlevel you should ALWAYS tag a contact so that you have information about that contact for future use and to be able to filter and search.
Let’s say you want to create a workflow when adding a tag to a contact record. It’s best practice to tell the workflow exactly what tag to look for so you don’t have the workflow start on every tag in the system. You can select the tag you want to target in the workflow builder. While setting up the Tag Added trigger, you can add a filter for Tag Added that will allow you to choose from any tag currently in the GoHighlevel system. The example below shows just one tag setup for VIP Customers. After the trigger has been set up, it will start and execute anytime a contact gets the VIP Customers tag added to it.
Tags can also be manually added to contacts by using the CRM. Your search for the contact you want and edit the contact record. Scroll down to find that Tag area, and then click in the Tag textbox to get a list of all tags.
You can add as many tags as you wish on this contact record.
Once the tag has been added GoHighlevel will then fire the workflow created earlier for this tag.
GoHighlevel Tags Conclusion
GoHighlevel CRM system is the heart of the platform. Every tool has been designed to integrate with the CRM. Any CRM system that is worth anything can tag contacts for organizational purposes. GoHighlevels platform just took it a step further and incorporated this same feature into its workflow builder to allow its users to perform more automated functions making them more efficient.
